Review

Welcome to our new section to the site thanks to our newest memeber of the team Jed Thomas, who will be reviewing new Batman merchandise moving forward. First up is the DC Direct BATMAN – BLACK & WHITE STATUE By Dustin Nguyen.

Hello readers and fellow collectors. I am Jed Thomas, an artist, a musician and an avid collector and an even bigger Batman fanatic. I am going to do a review on the recent BATMAN – BLACK & WHITE statue designed by Dustin Nguyen. Well, without anymore farther introduction… here we go !

Packaging: 4/4
Let’s begin this review by talking about the packaging. I think the packaging is pretty standard, cool and reasonable. The box feature pictures of the statue itself, the title and on one panels of the box it shows the sketch done by the artist in black white/grey-scale tone, just like any other box designs in this series.
The statue is carefully wrapped in plastic and placed nicely as you open the Styrofoam shell. This method just like any other packaging is very practical and does the job well in protecting the product. Awesome !!!!

Sculpting: 4/4
Here comes the fun one, as collectors we value great figures or statues with outstanding sculpt work and I think this statue delivers that perfectly. I am personally impressed on the edgy edge sculpting that works perfectly to depict Dustin’s art style. It has that awesome chiseled look to the figure, which in my opinion is very stylistic in a positive way.

Paint: 4/4
Paint applications are definitely important and have equal importance and factor to make or break the execution of a perfect figure or statue. Lately DC Direct have been dropping qualities on their paint applications on a lot of their products, but this is not the case for this particular statue. The paint application is very nice and shows a lot of great detailing using gloss and matte paint finishes to define the figure. The cowl, chest emblem and the cape are painted in matte black, while the boots and gloves are gloss black. The face has a nice light grey tone to it with a nice gloss highlight on the lips. The same method also repeated on Batman’s utility belt, which I thought is a very nice touch. The grey suit is also painted matte grey with great consistency.

Articulation: N/A
Since this is a static display statue, there is no articulation.

Accessories: N/A
Since this is a static display statue, there are no accessories.

Value: 2/4
Here comes the price rating for this statue. Retail goes for $80 and I thought this is a bit overpriced. Yes, it is an awesome statue in every way but the fact that it is pretty small size standing around 8” tall, I think this statue would be fairly price if it is around $50-$60.

Overall: 3/4
Overall score I would give to this figure is 3 out of 4. It is an awesome and beautiful statue, but the fact that it is overpriced, I have to knock 1 point off. But if you are a hardcore Batman fan like I am, I do think this is not to be missed.

Thank you for reading my review, I hope you enjoy it and until next time…. at the same bat-channel.
